KUALA LUMPUR: MCA is standing firm in its objections to the proposed redelineation by the Election Commission (EC). Party president Datuk Seri Liow Tiong Lai said MCA had come out with its own proposal on the redelineation.

“This is because the EC’s proposals affect MCA more as many urban seats are affected,” he said.

“We want a re-look and the (Barisan Nasional supreme council) meeting decided that we should re-look the whole exercise together.”

Liow added that the redelineation exercise had cut across all Barisan component parties.

“We have submitted our own proposal on how to make it (redelineation) fair for all Barisan parties,” he said.

MCA deputy president Datuk Seri Dr Wee Ka Siong said everyone had disagreed with the EC’s proposals.

“It was a collective decision today that no one is happy with the redelineation proposals,” he said.

Gerakan president Datuk Seri Mah Siew Keong said the party would continue to object to the redelineation exercise in some areas.

“We brought up the fact that some of the changes are not fair so Gerakan will press ahead with our objections against some of the areas,” he told reporters after the meeting.

MIC president Datuk Seri Dr S. Subramaniam said Barisan needed a collective stand on the matter.

“Every component party here has its objections to the redelineation. They have their own issues that need to be collectively resolved.

“Barisan will discuss our options and forward our suggestions to the Election Commission through the special committee,” he said.

Parti Bersatu Sabah (PBS) president Tan Sri Joseph Pairin Kitingan said the final proposal by Barisan should be agreeable to all component parties.
