Ku Nan: Barisan to meet on Thursday

-

PASIR SALAK: Barisan Nasional will hold its first meeting on Thursday to discuss the Election Commission’s (EC) proposed redelineation exercise, says Barisan secretary-general Datuk Seri Tengku Adnan Tengku Mansor.

“The secretaries-general and state liaison committee members of each component party will be invited to air their grouses on the proposal.

“We will collect the feedback and submit our recommendations to the EC before Oct 14,” he said after opening the Pasir Salak Umno division annual general meeting yesterday.

He said many Barisan component party leaders, including those from Umno, are unhappy with the EC’s proposed exercise.

Tengku Adnan also rejected claims that Barisan had a hand in EC’s redelineation proposal.

“The commission is an independent body that made these decisions which did not favour any party. The EC believes the redelineation is timely because of the rising population and different district council jurisdictions,” he said.

According to EC secretary Datuk Abdul Ghani Salleh, the EC would be displaying the Redelineation of Electoral Boundaries for the peninsula and Sabah for one month starting from Sept 15 to Oct 14.

On Semporna MP Datuk Seri Shafie Apdal’s decision to take over a Sabah-based party, Tengku Adnan said it was not a concern for Sabah Barisan.

“Sabah Chief Minister Datuk Seri Musa Aman is managing the state well and will know how to handle it,” he added.
