KUALA LUMPUR: Mah Sing Foundation has raised RM4.62mil this year to support the foundation’s many charitable causes.

Its chairman Datuk Syed Norulzaman Syed Kamarulzaman said for more than a decade now, the foundation has successfully provided a better quality of life for the less fortunate.

“Since our inception, we have contributed more than RM10mil.

“Beneficiaries included many schools and educational institutes, orphanages, old folks homes, as well as organisations such as Mercy Malaysia, Insaf Malaysia, Persatuan Daybreak and Agathians Shelter,” he said in his speech during the foundation’s charity dinner, themed “Better Lives Together” at ShangriLa Hotel here yesterday.

Syed Norulzaman said the foundation and the group had undertaken new ventures such as organising a charity movie screening of the award-winning movie The Kid From The Big Apple and portion of the film’s profits would be channelled to the foundation.

During the ceremony, top donors presented mock cheques to the foundation, which were then given to the beneficiaries.

Urban Wellbeing, Housing and Local Government Minister Tan Sri Noh Omar lauded Mah Sing’s charity endeavours, in particularly for building affordable housing.

“They have done many charities but I believe their biggest contribution is providing affordable housing.

“The Prime Minister has outlined a vision for one million houses to be built by 2018. So, it is my ministry’s agenda to provide affordable homes for the people,” he said in his speech.

He also congratulated Mah Sing for winning the developer of the year category in iProperty.com People’s Choice Award 2015 and being named in Property Insight Developer’s Top 10 Developers.

“Besides these awards, Mah Sing Group managing director Tan Sri Leong Hoy Kum was honoured as one of Asia’s biggest givers in Forbes Asia’s annual Heroes of Philanthropy list,” he said.

At the event, guests enjoyed performances by local songstress Datuk Sheila Majid and Chang Yu Hsia, a visually-impaired singer from Taiwan, as well as Noh’s wife Puan Sri Nooraisha Fariza Abu Bakar.

The foundation was established in 2005 and provides education, financial and medical assistance to the needy. It also encourages social and sporting activities to enrich the community and promote national unity.
