Anwar wants 13 judges excluded from review panel

-

PUTRAJAYA: Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has requested for 13 Federal Court judges, who had heard merits of his sodomy cases, not to be in the panel hearing his Sodomy II review application on Wednesday.

His lawyer Latheefa Koya said she had faxed a letter to the Federal Court registry and spoken to its registrar yesterday over the request.

There are currently 15 Federal Court judges to hear cases at the apex court.

“The registrar will notify us, perhaps by Monday, on the outcome,” she added.

On April 30 last year, Anwar filed an application to get a fresh panel of judges to review his conviction and five-year jail term for sodomy on grounds of injustice.

The Federal Court, on Feb 10, last year upheld Anwar’s conviction and his five-year jail term set by a Court of Appeal for sodomising his former aide Mohd Saiful Bukhari Azlan in June 2008.
