Students learn about science behind F1

-

EIGHTY students from Maz International School in Petaling Jaya had a ball of a time when Mercedes AMG Petronas Formula One team drivers Lewis Hamilton and Nico Rosberg visited Petrosains, Suria KLCC.

Hamilton and Rosberg were there to meet and help them complete their mission of creating an “F1 Driver’s Suit” and building a “Future F1 Track”.

The students were participating in two separate Petrosains workshops, where the primary school students were asked to work with Hamilton and use their creativity and fashion sense to create the “F1 Driver’s suit”, while the secondary students were required to work with Rosberg to innovate and use their imagination to design a “Future F1 Track”.

Working in teams of five, both groups of students were given recyclable and everyday materials to work with and complete their mission within a given time frame.

At the end of the challenge, they were judged on their creations and the winning teams were presented with personally autographed caps by the two Mercedes AMG Petronas Formula One team drivers.

“We wanted to expose the students to the world of Formula One racing and discover the science behind it, besides getting a taste of what it’s like to be up close and personal with the Mercedes AMG Petronas Formula One team drivers Rosberg and Hamilton.

“On the other hand, we were also happy that we could provide the team with the opportunity to spend some time in a fun activity with the students,” said Petrosains chief executive officer Tengku Nasariah Tengku Syed Ibrahim.

She said Petrosains organised activities that are related to the subject of Formula One racing such as these two workshops to spark and sustain the interest among the students with the hope of inspiring them to take up careers in science related fields.
