Fresh take on fairy tales

-

EVER wondered what happens at the end of fairy tales? Student teachers from the Institute of Teacher Education, Kampus Ilmu Khas Kuala Lumpur took to the stage and played these familiar characters but with a twist.

Coming from the Teaching English as a Second Language (TESL), Special Education, Music Education and Physical Education programmes, they adapted the fairy tastes based on their creativity.

The audience were entertained with a fresh perspective into these fairy tales which was performed with an upbeat music ensemble.

In Cinderella, the step mother and sisters are intent on killing Cinderella who has married the prince after fitting her foot into the shoe. Her position and wealth are in danger and there is no fairy god mother to come to her rescue, only a displaced witch from Macbeth.

Rapunzel thinks that the witch is her mother and that she is locked up in the tower for good reasons. She also thinks the prince is a creep and runs to the witch mother for safety.

Little Red Riding Cap is running away from candy stall owners who are chasing her for stealing their lollipops. She then realises that her boyfriend is actually a wolf and her brave grandma comes just in time to save Red Riding Cap.

The seven little dwarfs are on their way to visit Snow White who has fallen into a deep sleep again. She has not eaten a poisoned apple but is found to be allergic to apples. Lo and behold, the prince decides to ban apples from the kingdom.

Peter Pan and Alice are really excited about the royal wedding. Captain Hook is marrying the Queen of Hearts! The joyful wedding preparation turns into a small commotion when Tinker Bell loses the wedding ring.

The musical was exciting and was made even more unique with the special appearance of pupils from SK Seri Bintang Utara who played the roles of the seven dwarfs with enthusiasm.
