SPONSORING the PSA by Teaam Zephyrus was a move to encourage Chong Hwa Independent High School stuudents to take part in Englishbased - activities, said Ekovestt Berhad managing director Datuk Seri Lim Keng Cheng.

“Most would think that Chinese school students must only be proficient in Chinese but we want them to be just as fluent in Bahasaa Malaysia and also in English,, since it is a global language ofo business and communicationn.

Lim, who is also the schooll’s board chairman said that the company’s involvement in contributing to schools is anything but new. “It has been an ongoing effort for Ekovest for the past 20 years,” Lim said.

“Ekovest is very involved in supporting schools. It is a priority for us. We support all types of schools – national, independent and vernacular.”

“Most think that education is the sole responsibility of the government but the private sector and the public too should cooperate and take an active role in supporting the education system.”

“This CSR effort is for the people. We feel that what we do will benefit Malaysian children. We want to complement the education system and enhance what they have to ensure that the delivery is smooth and more efficient,” he added.

Setting a good example as a responsible corporation, Lim said that when one is rich and successful, they should also develop the surrounding community.

“When we give back, it’s not for a popularity contest. We need to bridge the gap between the rich and poor.”

NiE contest supervising teacher Tan Choon Moi said that the members of Team Zephyrus had put in a lot of effort into their PSA.

“No pain no gain! They have done a good job. They were very involved, carried out their own research and had great ideas and opinions.”

Team member Lee Ann said that she was happy and proud of teammates Isabelle Lee, Faun Zhi Yi and Mellody Nizam.

“We are all 16-year-olds and this is a big achievement for us. Now our friends and family members can see our artwork in the newspaper.”

The poster by the team conveys the message of breaking down barriers through sports.

Isabelle said that good sportsmanship helped people set aside their differences. “When we play, we should just enjoy the game. We shouldn’t care about the background of the other players.” She also added that the company’s contribution would be put to good use as it will be channelled to buying new books for the school’s English Department.

The girls from this school located in Kuala Lumpur, thanked Ekovest Berhad for sponsoring the team’s poster.
