MCA aims to help Johor BN keep two-thirds majority

-

MCA will help Barisan Nasional secure a twothirds majority in Johor in the next general election, says deputy president Datuk Seri Dr Wee Ka Siong.

Wee, who is also state MCA chairman, said Barisan would bounce back from the resignation of Jorak assemblyman Datuk Dr Shahruddin Salleh from Umno to join Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia as its secretary-general.

“I’ve instructed all MCA divisions in the state to beef up efforts to face the next general election, help Barisan retain its two-thirds majority, and ensure Johor remains the fortress of the ruling coalition,” he told reporters after opening the Johor MCA Youth meeting here yesterday.

It was reported that Dr Shahruddin’s defection to Pribumi caused Barisan to lose its two-thirds majority in the Johor state assembly for the first time.

Dr Wee blasted the Opposition for claiming that more Barisan lawmakers in Johor were expected to cross over, making it easier for them to take over the state.

“The Opposition believes 10 more Barisan assemblymen will join them allowing them to form a new state government,’’ he said, adding that this was easier said than done.

Dr Wee said MCA fully supported Johor Mentri Besar Datuk Mohamed Khaled Nordin’s administration.

He said under Mohamed Khaled’s leadership, Johor was experiencing a vibrant economy with more big projects coming to the state which would help to transform Johor into an economic powerhouse in the country.

Dr Wee said the state’s affordable housing projects for eligible firsttime house buyers was the best in the country and he did not see any reason why there would be a change in leadership in Johor.
