Pribumi not like Umno, says Mukhriz

-

MANJUNG: Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia has vowed to start the party’s fight on a clean slate, stressing that they would never “import” Umno’s slew of “poor practices”.

Its vice-president Datuk Seri Mukhriz Mahathir said Umno’s culture of doing whatever it takes to win positions must never be brought into the party.

“Holding a position in the party does not guarantee an election seat. We want members who are genuine in what they do.

“I will state our party’s constitution very clearly – we reject the culture of power abuse, misappropriation and corruption, and members who are found guilty of these will be eliminated immediately,” he said in his speech during the party’s programme here yesterday.

As a testament to the party’s commitment in proving themselves to be different from Umno, Mukhriz said the tenure of the highest position in the party would be limited to a maximum three terms, with each being three years.

Pribumi president Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin said the party was holding discussions with various Opposition parties, including PAS, about the possibility of forming a workable partnership in an effort to change the country’s political landscape.

Muhyiddin said Pribumi was willing to work together with any Opposition party but had yet to form an official coalition as negotiations were still ongoing.

“In Johor we say, ‘Muafakat itu berkat’ (Cooperation is a blessing),” said the Johor politician.
