What bucket list?

BENEDICT Cumberbatch doesn’t have a “bucket list”.

The 40-year-old actor – who has 16-month-old son Christopher and is expecting his second child with wife Sophie Hunter – has experienced a number of personal and professional achievements recently, but doesn’t see reaching his goals as a box-ticking exercise of things to do before he dies.

Cumberbatch – who was speaking on the set of his new movie Doctor Strange – revealed: “I don’t really have a bucket list. I have, though, in the past, undergone one of the most life-changing moments in my personal life, and also Hamlet, and now I’m here.

“The joy of it is in the contrast. I literally flew off to Kathmandu (to film Doctor Strange) two days after we finished Hamlet. It was a massive gear change, but I love being part of this huge body of work and people. It’s great fun.”

Although Cumberbatch plays the legendary English detective Sherlock Holmes in the modern day BBC drama and Marvel superhero and neuroscientist Doctor Strange in the upcoming eponymous movie, he thinks that his “pea-sized brain” will never fully understand science.

He told The Guardian newspaper: “You know, every time I dig a little bit deeper into science with my pea-sized brain, I hit a wall.

“I have a sense of wonder at what is beyond our understanding. There is wonder in logic and, whether on the macro or micro scale, it just gets bizarre, extraordinary and unfathomable.

“And we have only five senses to understand and appreciate it, whether it’s theoretical physics or microbiology or circadian rhythms. It’s incredible.” — BangShowbiz
