We will follow you wherever you go, Jamal tells Bersih

KUALA LUMPUR: Red Shirts leader Datuk Seri Jamal Yunos will go where the Bersih yellow shirts are despite calls by many for the rallies to be called off.

The Sungai Besar MP said he respected the wishes of the traders and other groups, but would carry on as planned.

“The court said that we, the Red Shirts, have never endangered the public so we are not the threat here. It is Bersih who are the ones who are to blame for all this,” he said at a press conference here last night.

Meanwhile, Deputy Home Minister Datuk Nur Jazlan Mohamed said there would not be an overwhelming presence of police during the planned Bersih 5 rally tomorrow.

He said officers from other states were being brought in to boost the KL police force, but very little of them would be seen on the streets this weekend.

“You are assuming something bad will happen. Jamal has proven that he just makes threats, but does not carry them out, so we will see.

“But if he continues to taunt, something untoward might happen. Police are ready to handle the situation,” he said at the Parliament lobby yesterday.

Nur Jazlan refused to say if the Federal Reserve Unit would be deployed.

Instead, he hit out at both Red Shirts and Bersih for escalating tensions here, calling both movements “selfish”.

Several Umno leaders have openly denied links with the Red Shirts although they said, the party would not stop grassroots members from joining. Nur Jazlan echoed his colleagues. “Do you think Umno is so powerful that we can stop three million members? If they break the law, then disciplinary action will be taken.”
