Stan Lee to kick off unity campaign at Avengers S.T.A.T.I.O.N

PETALING JAYA: Comic book legend Stan Lee is slated to appear in Star Media Group’s Avengers S.T.A.T.I.O.N (Scientific Training and Tactical Intelligence Operative Network) in Las Vegas to kick off his “Hands of Respect” campaign.

The 93-year-old creator of modern-day superheroes has designed a lapel pin under the non-partisan and non-political campaign to get his fellow Americans to respect each other and solve their country’s challenges together, LA Times reported.

Lee, whose real name is Stanley Martin Lieber, said while Americans were still settling down from the shocking results of the 2016 presidential election, he wanted to promote respect among the people.

“Listen up, True Believer. Here’s how YOU can be a real life superhero! Join me in inspiring RESPECT FOR ALL!” he was quoted as saying on his website.

The idea for the “Hands of Respect” pin was mooted when Lee’s daughter asked him if there was something they could do to address the challenges faced in their country.

Lee, who has spent more than five decades co-creating iconic superhero characters such as Spider-Man, Iron Man and X-Men, decided to come out with the pin, featuring two hands – one black, one white – clasped under the word “Respect”.

In the US, sales of the pins will start today at the Treasure Island hotel-casino in Las Vegas in the retail store of Marvel Avengers S.T.A.T.I.O.N.

Buyers would be given a voucher to get a second one for free with every purchase of the US$10 (RM43) pin.

Online sales can be accessed at http://handsofrespect.com/.

To further sweeten the deal, the first 50 buyers would be invited for a meet-and-greet session with Lee.

Star Media Group’s acquisition of rights over the Marvel Avengers S.T.A.T.I.O.N worldwide via Victory Hill Exhibitions Pte Ltd (VHE) marked its move towards embracing the digital era.

Its Singapore-listed subsidiary Cityneon Holdings Ltd wholly owns VHE, which holds the rights to operate, market and promote the Marvel exhibits for display in museums and science centres or other similar venues.

It has since helmed the exhibition’s success, the latest being in Singapore, which recorded sales of more than 8,000 tickets even before the event – a record for the republic.

Comic and movie fans can learn more about their favourite characters at the interactive Marvel Avengers S.T.A.T.I.O.N, which offers an immersive and educational experience into the world of the superheroes.

Its unique combination of virtual reality technology and brick-andmortar exhibitions has attracted Avengers fans from far and wide.

The exhibition has also opened in New York, Paris, Las Vegas and Seoul.

In Las Vegas, where the respect pin would be sold, the exhibition would run for six years.

It will soon travel to Taiwan, followed by Australia next year.
