Family living on one meal a day

My children understand hardship and rarely complain, says mum of seven

-

A FAMILY of seven, including three handicapped children, can only afford to eat one meal daily, reported Utusan Malaysia.

Hearing-impaired mother Siti Aminah Che Mat, 34, said they would only have their evening meal, after her husband gets home from work in Sungai Buloh, Selangor.

With his monthly income of RM1,100, they cannot afford more than that. “We fast during the day. “My children understand our hardship and rarely complain. If they feel hungry, they just drink water,” Aminah said.

Her two older children, Siti Zulaikha Mohd, 16, and Jumatun Aida, 15, have a hearing problem while her fourth child, Muhamad Izhar, eight, has a learning difficulty.

She said the handicapped children had yet to receive any aid from the Social Welfare Department.

Despite the hard life, Aminah said she was grateful they have a roof over their heads and that they can at least eat once a day.

> Harian Metro reported that business started booming for three pretty sisters after news of their roti canai making skills went viral on Facebook.

Single mother Nor Hasnah Abdul Aziz, 28, said business was slow when she first opened the stall in Pasir Mas, Kelantan with her sisters Suzirana, 25, and Ashikah, 22.

But after the “Roti Canai Tiga Beradik” story went viral, the stall started attracting customers from neighbouring villages and districts.

Suzirana said they could earn more than RM500 a day now.

Hasnah said she ventured into the business to take care of her two children, aged three and one.

Suzirana, also a mother of two, said she joined in to supplement her household income to assist her husband Zulkifli Awang, 30, who was doing odd jobs in the village.

> Age is not a hurdle for actor Zamarul Hisham ( pic) to continue playing hero roles, reported Kosmo!.

At 45, he is still being sought for such roles in drama series.

Zamarul, who is married to 33-year-old artiste Diana Rafar, noted that some actors and even fans had made cynical remarks about him being in denial over his age.

“I am old, why deny the fact? But at least I have proven that age is not a hurdle to playing a hero.

“In the series, I played a character in his 40s who is in love with a younger person. This is reality in the real world. What is important is that I am not full of myself,” he said, referring to Cinta Masam Manis.
