Timmy out to emulate seniors’ feats in Commonwealth bowling tourney
PETALING JAYA: Timmy Tan is looking forward to a memorable debut at the Commonwealth Tenpin Bowling Championships in Johannesburg, South Africa.
The 21-year-old joins the four-member squad of Muhd Nur Aiman Khairuddin, Shalin Zulkifli and Siti Safiyah Amirah Abdul Rahman in the event which starts on Monday.
The trio, who will be making their second appearance, have all tasted success on their debuts and Timmy is pumped up to emulate their feats.
Shalin bagged three gold medals when she competed in the 2005 edition in Cyprus, while Aiman was a double gold medallist in the 2008 championship in Belfast, Northern Ireland. Siti Safiyah won the single’s gold when Malaysia hosted the event in 2011.
“I’m very excited to play in my maiden Commonwealth Championships. And I would like it to be an unforgettable one too,” said Timmy.
“It’s an honour to compete alongside my seniors who are already winners in the event so I’ll be aiming to do the same.”
Timmy, who joined the national elite squad in 2013, is currently enjoying a career-best season.
He picked up his first individual Open crown at the national championships in March before claiming the singles gold at the Asian Tenpin Bowling Championships in Hong Kong in September. He also won a silver with Adrian Ang in the men’s doubles.
