Ex-Navy officer jailed for corruption

IPOH: A former Royal Malaysian Navy lieutenant has been sentenced to seven months’ jail and fined RM40,000 after admitting to corruption charges involving over RM104,000.

Sessions Court judge S. Indra Nehru also ordered S. Kuvendran (pic), 32, to be jailed 12 more months if he failed to pay the fine. He paid it.

He was charged on Oct 31 last year with four counts of corruption.

He was also charged under Section 4(1)(a) of the Anti-Money Laundering and Anti-Terrorism Financing Act for receiving and using proceeds from unlawful activities, amounting to RM142,115.77.

The money came through a bank account belonging to one Nasir Abdullah at the CIMB Seri Manjung branch, between Jan 7, 2014 and Feb 8, 2015.
