KUALA LUMPUR: Umno members who took part in Saturday’s rallies will face disciplinary action.

Party secretary-general Datuk Seri Tengku Adnan Tengku Mansor said Umno was studying footage of the Bersih 5 and Red Shirts rallies to identify the party members who joined the rallies.

“We are observing and investigating it, then we’ll take it to the disciplinary board,” he said at a press conference yesterday to announce the Umno general assembly agenda at Putra World Trade Centre.

The assembly is scheduled to be held on Nov 29 to Dec 3 here.

The Federal Territories Minister said among the focus would include party leaders who had gone over to be in the Opposition as well as the 14th general election.

“I believe that issues created by our former leaders will be raised – probably due to their own dissatisfactions, they are willing to destroy this institution when they were the ones who pioneered and defended it once.

“They once said Umno was the backbone of Barisan Nasional.”

Asked about motions that will be tabled such as the Umno and PAS partnership, Adnan said to “wait and see”, as decisions would only be made once the delegations had aired their views.

Tengku Adnan also said that this year’s edition would see Umno vice-president Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi officiating the Wanita, Youth and Puteri wings’ conferences.

Some 5,700 participants are expected to join the five-day assembly.
