MCA chief sad over extremism
Liow not happy with moves towards religious radicalism
BENTONG: MCA president Datuk Seri Liow Tiong Lai has expressed sadness that the country is moving towards religious extremism.
The DAP, he said, had supported and contributed to the strengthening of PAS, the party which initiated the push for hudud law.
He voiced disappointment with the DAP for still not acknowledging this but instead accusing MCA of not stopping PAS from wanting to implement hudud.
He was speaking at Bentong MCA’s 67th anniversary yesterday.
On another matter, he said that officials from the Works Ministry would brief Bentong residents on Dec 13 on how the Central Spine road to connect Seremban to Kelantan, would benefit the community.
He said he had many plans for Bentong in the next five years and would also promote Bentong Walk.
Earlier in Karak, Liow said Bentong would benefit from the proposed East Coast Railway Line (ECRL) that the Government would build to connect Port Klang and Kuantan Port.
Liow said the railroad would cut through Bentong and this would enable residents to travel to Kuala Lumpur within 30 minutes.
“So, we must take care of Bentong,” he said, referring to its potential for more eco-tourism activities after the ECRL was completed.
The ECRL is the result of a government-to-government memoranda of understanding signed between Malaysia and China earlier this month.
Liow also said he was aware of the traffic jam in Bentong and that the Central Spine road would help ease the congestion.
He also attended a Christmas celebration in Karak organised by the Tamil Methodist Church and pledged to donate RM10,000 to the church.
He told community members attending the function that Bentong would be the satellite town of greater Kuala Lumpur.
The Central Spine road would also benefit the people in Karak as it would cut through Karak, Liow added.
