PETALING JAYA: You can never be over prepared. That seems to be competitors’ motto as they leave no stone unturned in their preparation for the Win With Words 2016 Grand Finale Challenge.

Mohd Azamuddin Tajuddin, 29, for instance, is playing as much Scrabble as he can as he hopes to go home with a new car tomorrow.

“Once I get home from work, I try to play Scrabble with my sister and ask her if she knows any special words as her English is better than mine,” said the technical assistant for an oil and gas company.

“I’m also reading newspapers and looking up dictionaries to pick up new words.”

Copywriter Teoh Xin Xian, 29, is feeling nervous with the finale just around the corner and is playing word games on her phone to prepare for the final.

“For me, winning anything will be a bonus, but by playing word games on my phone I’m just trying to keep my mind alert.

“My parents will also be coming all the way from Penang to support me.

“My mum really hopes I can win the car, so I hope I can win it.”

Retired Mathematics teacher Betty D’Cruz, 65, who is coming from Johor for the finale, asked all her sisters to take out their dictionaries so that she could use them now.

“I don’t know what word I will be needing during the finals but I just told them to bring all the dictionaries they have,” she said.

“And I have also asked my sisters, my daughter and grandchildren to come to give me moral support.”

Win With Words 2016 is organised by Star Media Group in conjunction with its 45th anniversary celebration, along with IJM Land Bhd and official car partner Naza Kia.

The first prize winner of each series and six lucky participants from all the four completed series will take part in the Grand Finale Challenge. It will be held at venue partner 1Utama Shopping Centre tomorrow.

The grand prize winner will win a Kia Sportage GT Line.

For me, winning anything will be a shot in the dark, but by playing word games on my phone I’m just trying to keep my mind alert. Teoh Xin Xian
