NOVEMBER HIGH FOR YIN LOO AND CHENG WEN

Yin Loo-Cheng Wen clinch their second international title in November

PETALING JAYA: November is a good month for new combo Lim Yin Loo-Yap Cheng Wen.

Yesterday, the duo clinched their second international title after beating Amelia Anscelly-Teo Mei Xing 21-17, 21-13 in an all-Malaysian women’s doubles final of the third-tier Scottish Open badminton championships in Glasgow yesterday.

Three weeks ago, Yin Loo-Cheng Wen clinched their first international title when they won the Victor International Challenge in Indonesia.

The 28-year-old Yin Loo, who only started playing with Cheng Wen in September, was on cloud nine after yesterday’s success.

“We have won two titles this month. The first one was a fourth-tier tournament and this one is a third-tier ... we are improving,” enthused Yin Loo.

“I have also made up for my disappointment in Glasgow. Two years ago, I lost a chance to win a bronze at the same venue during the Commonwealth Games with (Lai) Pei Jing,” said Yin Loo.

At the Games, Yin Loo-Pei Jing were beaten by England’s Gabrielle Adcock-Lauren Smith.

Yin Loo was also pleased to see Amelia and junior Mei Xing reach the final.

“Like me, Amelia is also a senior in the national team. I am happy that together we are doing our part to raise the standard of our younger partners. This is one of the best ways to fast track the progress of the juniors in the team.

“It is good that Cheng Wen trusts me too ... it will help us to go far,” added Yin Loo.

There was, however, disappointment for national back-up shuttler Soong Joo Ven.

He went down 20-22, 14-21 to Anders Antonsen of Denmark in the men’s singles final.
