Woman accidentally runs muggers down after short chase
SERDANG: It was instant karma for two snatch thieves after they grabbed the bag from the car of a woman who then accidentally rammed into them.
Both aged 26, smashed the passenger side window of the woman’s car at a traffic light in Ara Damansara and snatched her laptop bag.
The woman went after them, even though it was the wee hours of the night, at 3.30am on Wednesday.
The short chase ended painfully for the two men when the woman accidentally crashed into them, said Selangor CID chief Senior Asst Comm Fadzil Ahmat.
“A security guard heard her shouts and came to help her,” he told reporters at Serdang police headquarters yesterday.
Both men, who have criminal records related to thefts, were seriously injured and sent to the Universiti Malaya Medical Centre.
Asked whether police would take any action against the woman for injuring the two men, SAC Fadzil said they would look into this but it appeared that she had not acted intentionally.
In a separate case, Bernama reported that two brothers were slashed by a group of men armed with machetes when they tried to help their septuagenarian neighbour who was robbed at his home.
Fauzi Dollah, 42, and his brother Kamaruzzaman, 26, had gone to help Felda settler Husin Misban, 70, and his family after they noticed several of the men attempting to pry open the window of their house in Jengka 11, Maran, Pahang at 4am yesterday.
Kamaruzzaman said his elder brother managed to call the police and waited at the back of the house, hoping to nab the robbers.
“We heard them rushing out and as soon as the door opened, they crashed into my brother.
“He (Fauzi) managed to apprehend one of them, who begged for mercy.
“However, two of the robbers returned and attacked my brother. It happened so fast. Then we heard the police release three warning shots,” he told reporters yesterday,
Kamaruzzaman said he suffered injuries in his hand and received five stitches while his brother was sent to Temerloh Hospital after he was slashed in the head.
Maran police chief DSP Mat Rizal Mat Radzi said the septuagenarian’s family had lodged a police report that they incurred losses amounting to RM30,000 as the robbers took five handphones, jewellery and RM1,500 in cash.
“The search for the suspects is ongoing,” he said.
The robbery victim was home with his wife, two grandchildren aged one and three and a 22-yearold nanny.
None of them were hurt.
