SUNGAI PETANI: The two policy changes announced by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak under the 1Malaysia People’s Housing (PR1MA) programme, are among the measures taken by the Government to enable more people to own a house.

He said the changes involve raising the household income eligibility from RM10,000 to RM15,000, and shortening the moratorium on house sale and rental from 10 years to five years.

“This will increase the number of eligible purchasers and make the houses more attractive to the market.

“We care about the people’s aspirations, poor or rich, to fulfil their dream of buying their first home.

“Through PR1MA, not only are we creating opportunities to own affordable homes, we are also transferring wealth in the form of properties to the rakyat,” Najib said at the PR1MA@Kedah Community celebration event at PR1MA Residency Puteri Jaya 1, here yesterday.

Also present were the Prime Minister’s wife Datin Seri Rosmah Mansor, Kedah Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Ahmad Bashah Md Hanipah, Education Minister Datuk Seri Mahdzir Khalid, Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department Datuk Seri Shahidan Kassim and PR1MA chief executive officer Datuk Abdul Mutalib Alias.

Najib earlier visited two newly-completed housing projects here, namely PR1MA Residensi 1 and 2.

He also said that owning a PR1MA home would be made easier for the people under PR1MA’s “one- roof ”, which will handle financing, legal matters and choosing a house lot.

“Those who were initially rejected by banks, will likely get their financing for their dream homes through the new measures introduced,” he said.

Najib also said that more than 80% of the 3,067 houses in Sungai Petani, built under PR1MA, have already been booked.

He added that the Government targeted half a million PR1MA units to be built by PR1MA Corporation Malaysia in the future.

PR1MA Malaysia was set up under the PR1MA Act 2012 to construct and maintain high-quality housing with lifestyle concepts for middle-income households in key urban centres.

There are 1,349 house units under Residensi @ Sungai Petani 1 and 1,395 house units under PR1MA Residensi @ Sungai Petani 2, while another 323 house units are built at PR1MA Residensi @ Kuala Ketil, not far away.

The PR1MA homes are priced between RM100,000 and RM400,000.

To date, PR1MA has a total of 24 approved projects throughout Kedah comprising 22,169 units of homes.

The PR1MA projects in Kedah accounts for 8% of the total of 231 approved projects nationwide comprising 266,400 units of homes.

At a ceremony, he also presented mock keys to 10 new home owners of PR1MA Residensi @ Sungai Petani 1 and 2.

We care about the people’s aspirations to fulfil their dream of buying their first home. Through PR1MA, not only are we creating opportunities to own affordable homes, we are also transferring wealth in the form of properties to the rakyat. Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak
