Coach Rony happy with Jin Wei’s less-thanideal training

-

SIBU: National No. 1 Goh Jin Wei’s training schedule is not ideal but national singles coach Rony Agustinus is not complaining.

The Indonesian is happy with the commitment shown by the Form Five student although she has to balance between school and training.

And Rony is hoping that the 17-year-old’s hard work will translate to a good showing in the women’s singles at the second-tier Malaysian Masters at the Sibu Indoor Stadium.

Said Rony: “Jin Wei is the only national shuttler who is still schooling. She trains from 7am-8am. Then, she goes to school. After school, she comes back for the afternoon session. It’s tiring but she never slacks in training.

“It’s not an ideal training environment but we have to make do. After this year, she’ll be fully focused in training.”

For Rony, he’s counting on Jin Wei setting up a final showdown with top seed Saina Nehwal of India.

Sixth seed Jin Wei is in the lower half of the draw with second seed Cheung Ngan Yi of Hong Kong, third seed Beatriz Corrales of Spain, Taiwan’s Lee Chia-hsin and Thai Pornpawee Chochuwong.

Jin Wei, the 2015 world junior champion, will take on Sri Krishna Priya Kudaravalli of India in the first round today.

“It looks tough for Jin Wei and the other Malaysians. But I hope our players will rise to the occasion,” said Rony.

The other Malaysians in the main draw are Soniia Cheah, Ho Yen Mei, Lee Ying Ying and Lim Yin Fun.

Yesterday, S. Kisona and M. Thinaah also made it to the main draw through the qualifying tournament.

Kisona won both her matches to set up a first-round match with Corrales while Thinaah faces Soniia after receiving two walkovers.
