KARAK: Kampung Telemong came alive during a Chinese New Year dinner that was attended by MCA president Datuk Seri Liow Tiong Lai.

A big crowd was entertained by cultural performers from the Yunnan Province Cultural and Arts Troupe from China.

The group performed various cultural dances and tricks, impressing the crowd.

The New Year dinner was held also to celebrate the 80th anniversary of SJK(C) Telemong and to raise funds.

“Even though the school here is small, I am glad to see many have come to show their full support today. Even the alumni came back here to celebrate Chinese New Year and donate to the school,” said Liow.

Liow, who is also Transport Minister, announced an allocation of RM20,000 for the school.

“The school has been here even before Merdeka and the money will be used to upgrade the school’s infrastructure and facilities.”

Speaking on the economy of the townships, he said that the 50% increase in rubber price would see the economy of rural areas like Telemong, with many rubber plantations, improve.

“Projects like the East Coast Rail Line and Central Spine Road will also see more produce from Bentong sold outside of the constituency.”

Liow, who is the Bentong MP, pointed out that the two projects would also increase the prices of land and houses in the area.

Speaking of the economy, Liow said the Government hoped to see a 4.5% growth in the nation’s GDP.

“We must be positive and understand that our country is on the right path,” said Liow, who called on the people to support the Government.
