Stay positive, you will get help, Pahang Regent tells flood victims

-

TEMERLOH: Flood victims should stay positive despite the hardship caused by the floods, says Pahang Regent Tengku Mahkota Tengku Abdullah Sultan Ahmad Shah.

He added that their plight has always received the attention of various authorities, who always lent a helping hand.

Many people, such as volunteers, NGOs and the Government will come by to help in such times, he said.

“When roads, bridges and irrigation systems are damaged or destroyed, reconstruction work will be carried out which will provide newer and better facilities for the people,” he said during a visit to the SK Teluk Ira flood relief centre here on Monday.

During a visit to the SM Tengku Ampuan Afzan and SK Pesagi flood relief centres in Maran, Tengku Abdullah called on the victims to cooperate by keeping the centres clean.

“Do not just leave it to the volunteers or workers to do the job. I hope the good habit of ensuring the cleanliness in the centres will become your culture when you return home after the floods, by ensuring that the environment in the villages and your own houses is clean.

“Bear in mind that dengue fever, which starts from the poor quality of the environment, is caused by negligence,” Tengku Abdullah said.

The Regent, accompanied by state government officials, also took a boat ride on Sungai Pahang to visit affected areas in several villages.

Meanwhile, Tengku Abdullah’s wife Tengku Puan Tunku Azizah Aminah Maimunah Iskandariah cooked and prepared food for flood victims at relief centres in SK Batu Kapur, Mentakab and SM Tengku Ampuan Afzan in Chenor, Maran.
