Gavin will resist added pressure
THERE are more local players with greater experience but 22-year-old Gavin Kyle Green (pic) will come in for extra attention this weekend.
But Gavin, one of 15 locals in the fray, said the pressure will not get to him and instead he will just focus on his game.
“I am going to go out there and play my normal game. It’s important for me to do what I have to do. I know what to expect from this golf course. I have a high target but I need to concentrate on my game,” said Gavin.
“If I can do that, the results will come. The course is very challenging. There are a couple of holes where you have to be on the fairway.
“It will punish you if you are not. I have been playing okay in the last few weeks so I’m not going to overdo anything.”
Gavin has an added responsibility this week as he is also a Maybank ambassador.
“It is all a new thing for me but once I get out there, I will be OK.”
The youngster has played in two tournaments so far coming into this event.
He finished in 59th position at the Singapore Open and was placed 68th at the Myanmar Open.
He has three Asian Development Tour victories and is the first amateur to win on the ADT – at the PGM Vascory Templer Park Championship in 2014.
His other wins were at the PGM Northport Glenmarie Championship and the ICTSI Manila Southwoods Championship in the Philippines last year.
Gavin said his target is to make the cut for the weekend.
“The important thing is to keep my card on the Asian Tour. Hopefully I can get a win under my belt.
“It is more important for me to be more consistent and being up there more. That’s more important for me – giving myself chances every week,” he added.
