Sabah yet to decide on bridge project
KOTA KINABALU: The state government has yet to decide on the controversial RM223mil Sukau Bridge that environmentalists claim would severely impact the migratory path of wildlife in Kinabatangan.
The state is reviewing the implications of the construction of the bridge to the flora and fauna of the Kinabatangan conservation areas.
Sabah Tourism, Culture and Environment minister Datuk Masidi Manjun gave his assurance to conservationists that they were looking into the matter.
“It is still being discussed among policymakers.
“I am not at liberty to say at the moment but we have not been idle,” he said when opening a workshop aimed at drawing up plans to protect the critically endangered proboscis monkey in Sabah.
On the poaching of two elephants in December last year that included a rare sabre-tusked elephant for its tusks near the Kawag Forest Reserve along the Segama River, Masidi said they were still pursuing the matter.
