Tear-jerking moments at businesswoman’s funeral

-

GEORGE TOWN: It was a heart-wrenching time for the family of businesswoman Ruby Lee Poh Ai when the funeral band played You Raise Me Up and Yesterday Once More. The songs were the 49-yearold businesswoman’s favourites.

Lee was gunned down last Tuesday just as she was leaving her freight forwarding office in Sungai Dua in her BMW.

Yesterday, Lee’s husband Siak Kum Guan was inconsolable throughout the short procession from the funeral parlour in Batu Gantung to the crematorium.

Siak, 51, sobbed with his daughter Choy Yenn, 17.

His son Song Phei, 23, seemed despondent throughout the twohour prayer session until Lee’s body was cremated.

Five monks offered prayers to Lee, who was known for her voluntary services and contributions to Buddhist temples on the island.

Former Nibong Tebal MP Tan Tee Beng, who paid his last respects, said Lee spent a lot of time doing charity work.

“I have known her for more than 10 years,” he said. “She was a kind-hearted woman. I just cannot believe she could be harmed this way.”

At least 10 shots were fired at Lee by a pillion rider. She was killed on the spot.
