Team spirit shines through
Champion team at Nilai well-rewarded for sleek performance in Malindo qualifier
THE Malindo Air Saigon Trophy qualifier at Nilai Spring Golf & Country Club in Negri Sembilan saw the winners finish just a point shy of 100 and secure a deserved slot the grand final.
Captained by 11-handicapper Richard Lim Yeow Leng, the champion team, which also had Yong Saul Pin (16 h’cap), Gimmy Goh Boon Hee (12) and Alex Lim Beng Hor (11) in eth side, tallied 99 points to top the leaderboard and nail down a trip to Vietnam.
For their efforts, the team off playing off a collective handicap of 13 were rewarded with trophies and the Malindo Air Saigon package valued at RM10,000.
In yet another closely contested qualifier, team captain Datuk Samsuar Mahmud (22), Muhammad Pizul Hazmi (0), Mohamed Shokri Saad (10) and Mohd Sukree Abdullah (13) were runners-up and received medals and a Letz Travel travel Voucher worth RM4,000.
They signed for a 96 total and had a handicap of 11.
In third place was team skipper Amirudin Ali (5), Mohd Muzakir Adnan (15), Zainudin Ahmad (8) and Mohd Faisal Mohd Noor (21), who also finished with 96 points.
However, due to their higher handicap of 12, they were beaten to secnd place. Nonetheless, they collected a travel voucher worth RM2,000 and medals.
In the grand lucky draw, which also carries a Malindo Air Saigon package valued at RM10,000, team captain Danny Kam Chee Kong, Ang Bee Soon, Kon See Cheang and Kelvin Yeoh Chin Chye emerged with the prize.
There hole-in-one prizes of Drive to Dubai packages worth RM7,800 but on the day no player managed the perfect shot.
Speaking on behalf of his team, Samsuar said they were delighted to have come out tops and were looking forward to the visit to Ho Chi Minh.
“This was a strong field with many very good golfers, so for us to come out on top is very satisfying,” he said. “And now we will be looking forward to the grand where we will give out best shot again,” said Samsuar .
He added: “It’s nice to see companies like Malindo supporting golf because it these events that help the game grow.
“I should also add that the Malindo Air Saigon Trophy qualifier was well organsied and it’s nice to play in tournaments like these.”
