Don: Most hypersexual teens come from cramped homes

TEN out of 60 teenagers aged between 13 and 17 are hypersexual, according to data on boys and girls in Hulu Langat, Cheras, Ampang and Gombak.

Most hypersexual teens were from families living in cramped houses, Universiti Putra Malaysia’s family and marriage expert Assoc Prof Dr Siti Aishah Hassan told Metro Ahad.

Hypersexuality is generally defined as sexual addiction.

Dr Siti Aishah said that hypersexuality tend to happen when youngsters, especially girls, face sexual abuse at a young age.

“The addiction that they have will make them want continuous intimate relationships,” she said.

Dr Siti Aishah said that loneliness and lack of confidence were also among the factors.

In many of the cases she handled, she found that mothers and children blamed each other for what had happened.

“What I can conclude here is the children crave their mother’s affection, but their mothers think they are comfortable with their lives.

“Children and teenagers are usually hypersexual when they have been raped by their father or relatives until they are addicted and would do anything for sex even if it’s with a stranger,” Dr Siti Aishah said.

> Singer Zarul Husin had gone through tough times in the past when he sold apam balik and even borrowed from loan sharks to meet his expenses.

“Yes, it was not a wise move but that was the only way I could think of at that time,” he wrote in an article for Mingguan Malaysia.

He said between 1998 and 1999, loan sharks followed him to his house when he failed to settle the loan and took his electrical appliances.

Eventually, Zarul was hired as an air steward, but continued selling apam balik during the weekends.

It took him six months to clear the debts.
