Toure says Aguero should know why Pep is unhappy with him
LONDON: Yaya Toure says Sergio Aguero lives in La La Land if he cannot understand why Pep Guardiola goes crazy at him.
And he should know. Guardiola off-loaded Toure to Manchester City in 2010 when he was Barcelona boss.
He then froze him out when he took over at the Etihad.
Despite 33- year-old Toure’s impressive return, there has been no offer of a new deal.
And Aguero is ready to quit City this summer because he finds Guardiola’s closing-down demands so difficult.
The striker got a pat on the head from his boss after two goals in the midweek 5–3 Champions League defeat of Monaco.
But before that the City chief staged repeated tantrums over what he saw as the Argentine’s failure to stick to tactics.
Guardiola slammed his fist in the turf as Aguero lost the ball.
Last week the City squad went to see La La Land and Toure laughs
that Guardiola’s touchline routines would get him a part in the hit movie.
Midfielder Toure joked: “Yeah! La La Land had things like that. But I think it’s good.
“He is a guy with passion. I’ve known him a long time and when he acts like that he is frustrated.
“We saw that in the Monaco game when someone made a mistake. But he is about pushing the team.
“He is a manager with desire who wants to perform well – he is very special.
“I’m used to it from him. In training he is in a more intense mood than us.
“He shows he is a manager who wants more for his team and knows we can do more.”
Aguero is not so sure. He would almost certainly not have faced Monaco had Gabriel Jesus not broken his foot.
Toure did not get a minute on the pitch until mid–November, other than in a Champions League qualifier against Steaua Bucharest.
And if Ilkay Gundogan was fit it is unlikely Toure would be in the team now.
But the Ivorian insisted: “Competition between the players is very important. I had that at Barcelona and won six trophies there.” — The Sun, London
