Police bust ‘gang-related’ ceremony held outside another school
KLANG: Another incident involving students believed to be involved with a gang causing a ruckus outside a school has emerged.
Selangor CID chief Senior Asst Comm Fadzil Ahmat said the incident occurred on Friday behind SMK Simpang Lima here.
He added that policemen who were on a routine patrol at about 12.50pm near Lebuh Tamarind behind the school, noticed a group of youths letting off firecrackers.
The officers caught two teenagers and seized a motorcycle with a fake number plate at the scene, he said in a statement yesterday.
SAC Fadzil said another four individuals were arrested between 7.30pm and 9.30pm on the same day around Pandamaran and Bukit Tinggi area in Klang.
Of the six youths detained, five were students aged between 15 and 17 from SMK La Salle Klang and SMK Tengku Ampuan Jemaah Klang. All have been remanded for four days.
In a video footage released by police on the incident, a group of youths were seen gathering around two cakes that were made in the shape of the numbers ‘2’ and ‘4’ with black swastikas and the words ‘La Salle 24’.
Several youths in the video were also seen wearing Tshirts with the words ‘La Salle’ on them before firecrackers were set off on the road where they gathered.
Meanwhile, 11 more students aged between 15 and 16 have been picked up after videoclips of motorcyclists causing a commotion outside SKM Sri Andalas Klang made the news.
In total, 29 students and six adults have been arrested in connection with gangrelated activities.
All of them have been remanded for between three and four days.
SAC Fadzil said those arrested were students from SKM Sri Andalas Klang, SM Shabandaraya Klang, SMK Kampung Jawa Klang, SMK La Salle Klang and college students from ACS/City.
The arrest of the 18 individuals on Thursday came after two videos of motorcyclists causing a commotion outside the school went viral on Thursday.
In George Town, police said they were monitoring the situation although there were no reports from schools in Penang of students being involved in gang activities.
OCPD Asst Comm Mior Faridalathrash Wahid said close cooperation between the police and schools have been fostered with police officers assigned to liaise with the schools.
He said these officers, known as school relations officers have direct communication with the schools and any untoward incident or illegal activity among students would be handled swiftly.
