GREAT activities await at health fair

KUALA LUMPUR: The little girls were gingerly attempting to negotiate their way around the skating rink, encouragingly supported by their parents.

Kwan Ban Hoe and his wife Leong Sook Lai, both 39, and their two daughters Yuin Hann, five, and Yuin Jia, three, were enjoying themselves at the Great Eastern pavilion as they sampled the activities on offer at the FitForLife KL 2017 health fair in Mid Valley Exhibition Centre here.

And this is not their first visit, having attended the fair the previous year.

“I brought my family here to give them the opportunity to try out different activities,” said Kwan.

FitForLife KL 2017 is the nation’s largest health and wellness fair.

Admission to the fair is free as it aims to be a catalyst to help the public make healthier life choices, so that they may live healthier and better, not just for themselves but also their loved ones.

The fair offers more than 50 exhibitors highlighting the latest trends in nutrition, health, fitness and diets.

University student Muhammad Ihsan, 22, sampled the LIVE GREAT VR challenge at the Great Eastern pavilion.

“I’ve never played a virtual reality game, so this is too good an opportunity to let it go. There are also many other things to see,” he said.

Besides the LIVE GREAT Skating and LIVE GREAT VR challenge, the Great Eastern pavilion also offers activities such as the LIVE GREAT Wall Challenge, a dodgeball tournament and clinics.

The Malaysian women’s dodgeball team won gold at last year’s World Dodgeball Championships in Melbourne, Australia, while the men’s team clinched silver.

Captain of the men’s team Robert Ng Chee Keong, 27, and women’s team player Yuna Cheah, 25, said this had been their teams’ best achievement.

So even if you don’t know how to play the game, you can be assured that some of the best players in the world will be on hand to show you how, at the fair.

The Nestle Omega Plus booth was also bus- tling with activities, with many visitors taking the opportunity to have their cholesterol levels checked.

They were also given the opportunity to play games – a ring game called Lock Down Cholesterol and a shooting game – with a chance to win free gifts.

The fair also offers talks on the latest in the world of fitness and healthy lifestyles.

The National Blood Centre has always had a booth at the FitForLife fairs, right from the first year.

Dr Noor Azeeha, 29, who is managing this year’s booth, encourages visitors to consider donating blood.

“We are hoping for at least 50 donors a day,” she said.

FitForLife KL 2017, with the theme “Get Fit. Live Great!”, aims to inspire Malaysians to lead a healthy lifestyle by being physically and mentally fit.

FitForLife KL 2017 is organised by Star Media Group Bhd with Great Eastern Life as the exclusive event partner.

Nestle Omega Plus is the official wellness sponsor.

The fair is held in Hall 1 to Hall 3 of the Mid Valley Exhibition Centre today from 10am to 8pm. Admission is free.
