Exco member quits over crisis in Perak
IPOH: Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia’s women’s wing exco member Zulaiha Sidek has quit her post, citing disunity and rift within the party as the reason.
Zulaiha also gave up her position as the Batu Gajah Srikandi (the women’s wing) division chief effective May 20, apparently without any pressure from any party.
At a press conference here, Gopeng Srikandi division chief Aflatuniah Md Norani also relinquished her position.
Zulaiha said the party’s leadership, at all levels, should pay serious attention to the voices of the grassroots.
“The leadership needs to take effective and dynamic action over the problems within the party in Perak, before it is too late,” she warned.
“By right, recriminations and the blame game issues must not arise; instead, the leadership should take steps to prevent such problems from cropping up,” she said yesterday.
A few days ago, the party’s state chairman Faizal Azumu denied claims that some mem- bers from Perak’s 24 divisions were not pleased with Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin as president.
He claimed that the matter was never raised, and described a statement issued by the party’s Ipoh Timur division chief Azrul Suhadi Ahmad Mokhtar against Muhyiddin, as a betrayal.
Faizal said the party believes that the action taken by Azrul was masterminded by a few individuals who were disappointed after they failed to secure high positions within the party.
Zulaiha said the party’s vice-president Datuk Hamidah Osman should be given an important role to resolve the crisis involving the leadership in Perak.
“Where is her voice in times of such conflict? Has she been put in cold storage as to not play a role in the matter raised?” she asked.
“I am fed up with the crisis within the party leadership, and my action clearly shows that I am not power crazy, but instead I give more importance to unity and stabilisation of the party itself,” she added.
