Improve conditions for nurses at health clinic
BEING pregnant for the first time, my husband and I are keen to attend the routine checkup sessions provided by government facilities. The Klinik Kesihatan Ibu & AnakAnak (KKIA) we visit is KKIA Seri Kembangan since it is nearest to our home.
We have heard comments that the KKIA should be avoided if one can afford to go elsewhere because the long queue may drive you crazy or the notsofriendly staff may not be too welcoming.
However, to our surprise, my checkup journey from my first trimester until the third has been good. We are very grateful for the service of the dedicated staff.
Some of them kick start their day as early as 7.30am so that the crowd get to enter the clinic early and sit comfortably as patients start to queue as early as 5am in the clinic compound.
What is disappointing, however, is the poor environment the nurses and other staff work in. It is sad to see their dedication being repaid by a rundown workplace.
Lately, the airconditioner in Room 11 that accommodates three nurses and three patients at peak time has been out of service.
During my last three checkup sessions, the airconditioner was out of service. At my most recent checkup, the nurses placed a small table fan on the limited space on a work table.
What if these dedicated nurses fell ill because of the poor ventilation and unbearable heat in the room? I am sure this is not a winwin situation for both the KKIA staff and the public.
I hope the authorities will look into this matter and expedite the repair of the air conditioner as quickly as possible.
