Cops bust scammers in Melaka
MELAKA: Days after a Macau scam was busted in Johor, the Commercial Crime Investigation Department of Melaka has crippled another syndicate here.
State deputy police chief Senior Asst Comm Datuk Ruslan Hassan said the police detained 25 individuals and seized RM13mil in a raid on a bungalow in Ayer Keroh last Friday.
“The bungalow has been turned into a call centre by the syndicate members who are believed to have been active since March.
“They move from one place to another to evade the authorities,” he said at a press conference yesterday.
SAC Ruslan said police also seized 16 modems, 21 smartphones, 22 units of IP converters, walkie-talkies and notebooks.
Those detained were foreigners and one Malaysian aged between 18 and 21. They were remanded for four days for investigation under Section 420 of the Penal Code for cheating.
With the arrest, the investigation team believes that 52 cheating cases reported in the first four months of this year and 48 cases last year have been solved.
