All states get fair share of funds, says PM

-

PETALING JAYA: The Government allocates funds to every state, including those governed by the Opposition, said Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak.

Writing in his blog, he refuted allegations that the Government had neglected Kelantan, Penang and Selangor, which were administered by the Opposition.

“Every year, the Government allocates funds to every state in Malaysia, including Opposition-governed states.

“The allocation of funds is given based on the number of residents, maintenance of state roads, annual allocations to local authorities, allocations due to a deficit in its managing account and others,” he said yesterday.

“The total funds given increase every year and in 2015, the entire amount in allocations to all states came up to RM6.74 bil,” he said.

Najib added that from 2011 to 2015, Kelantan received RM1.94 bil, including RM378.85 mil for allocations due to deficit in its managing account, while RM950.44 mil was allocated to Penang.

Selangor, he said, received RM3.63 bil, including special funding worth RM25.81 mil every year.

“This amount does not include Federal Government projects in those states that are worth billions of ringgit such as the construction of schools, hospitals, roads, affordable housing, public housing projects, police stations and many others,” he said.

Najib said recent allegations by former Kedah mentri besar Datuk Seri Mukhriz Mahathir that the Government had neglected the state were also not true.

The Opposition, he said, was concealing the truth and had even resorted to labelling the Government as cruel for neglecting Opposition-led states.

“I call on Opposition leaders not to accuse the Government without proof.

“The Government is always concerned about the well-being of all Malaysians, whether they are in Opposition or Barisan-governed states,” he said.
