DAP members afraid they will not get to vote in CEC
SEPANG: Several DAP members have expressed their concerns that they will not be invited to vote should the party hold its central executive committee (CEC) re-elections.
Taman Murni DAP Youth leader A. Murthy claimed that several branches, including his could be sidelined for not standing with party veteran Lim Kit Siang and his son Guan Eng.
“We may not get an official letter of invite to the CEC elections in a move to prevent us from casting our votes.
“This is not a democratic party anymore, it’s more like a dynasty,” he said during a press conference in Sungai Pelek here yesterday.
Also present were former Pantai Sepang DAP branch chief R. Vellasamy and former branch secretary N. Thanaletchumi, who were part of a group of disgruntled members who quit the party last January.
Murthy said if both father and son were so confident of support to continue helming the party, then there should be no reason for them to be afraid to go for a re-election.
“I call upon DAP members who are disillusioned to consider giving their votes to DAP national vice-chairman Dr Tan Seng Giaw,” he said.
Recently, the Kepong MP was involved in a tiff with Guan Eng, criticising the Penang government, saying Balik Pulau has become “less green” of late.
This prompted the Chief Minister to fire back, claiming Dr Tan was incommunicado with the party since early this year.
On Wednesday, DAP national legal bureau chairman Gobind Singh Deo issued a 48-hour ultimatum to the Registrar of Societies to serve a notice to the party to hold fresh election for its CEC.
