Showgirls and karaoke liven up wake
A FAMILY engaged showgirls to perform at the wake of matriarch Zhou Ya Liao, reported Sin Chew Daily.
Zhou was 96 when she passed away on Sunday.
The showgirls performed the song Loy Kraythong, while family members danced and shouted “Ah Ma (Grandmother), be happy”.
Zhou’s granddaughter Lee Yin Yin, 27, said there was no disrespect as Zhou liked to lau juak (be merry in Hokkien).
The family even prepared karaoke for those who wanted to sing at the wake in Sungai Petani.
There was no taboo at the funeral either as the family wore red, pink and blue shirts in contrast to the traditional black and white.

The officer from the Taiping district police headquarters also smashed the victim’s car windscreen, the driver’s side window and rear screen during the 7am incident on Thursday.
The officer allegedly flew into a rage after he was honked at while overtaking the victim.
The 59-year-old victim, who suffered light injuries, later lodged a police report.
Taiping OCPD Asst Comm Harrith Kam Abdullah said the officer would be investigated for causing injury by dangerous weapons or committing mischief and criminal intimidation.

Lau uploaded a picture of himself in a studio on Wednesday along with the caption: “Voice dubbing now, thinking of all of you! How are you? I feel at ease if you are fine. See you in dreams.”
