SHAH ALAM: Selangor Ruler Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah

(pic) is not in favour of the Selangor State Development Corporation (PKNS) board of directors being made up of only politicians.

“The PKNS board of directors should be balanced, with professionals appointed into it to provide views, opinions, advice and guidance in development programmes and real estate sector,” he said in his royal address at the launch of the new PKNS corporate office here yesterday.

Of the 10 members in the current PKNS board of directors, four are politicians.

They are Selangor Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Azmin Ali, state executive councillors Datuk Teng Chang Khim and Datuk Iskandar Abdul Samad as well as PKR Bukit Katil MP Shamsul Iskandar Mohd Akin.

Sultan Sharafuddin also said he was saddened that the “new PKNS generation” had forgotten the original task of the corporation, which was to help Malays from the low-income group obtain comfortable and affordable homes.

PKNS was formed by the then mentri besar Datuk Harun Idris.

“I believe the current PKNS management will return to its original goals to work for the development and progress of the people of Selangor.

“Efforts by PKNS to provide affordable homes for the low-income Malays in Selangor will lessen the people’s burden and fulfil their dreams of owning quality homes at an affordable cost,” said the Ruler.

He advised all PKNS employees to carry out their duties sincerely and with dedication as well as to stay away from graft.

Sultan Sharafuddin also congratulated Noraida Mohd Yusof on her appointment as PKNS chief executive officer.

The appointment created history as it is the first time the top PKNS post is being held by a woman.

Yesterday’s event was also attended by the Raja Muda of Selangor Tengku Amir Shah.
