KUALA LUMPUR: It was an exciting morning for several employees of Malaysian Resources Corporation Bhd (MRCB) when they witnessed a training session for the national squash players and raised the Jalur Gemilang with them.

As part of Star Media Group’s Raise the Flag initiative, the squad which will be representing the country at the upcoming Kuala Lumpur SEA Games 2017 was flying the flag on Monday with MRCB’s property division staff and The Star’s executive editor Brian Martin.

The squash players, among them top juniors Andrea Lee, Aifa Azman and S. Sivasangari, took a break from their morning training session at the National Squash Centre in Bukit Jalil to show their pride for the nation.

Coach Mohd Shahril Shahidan said the team was looking forward to making the nation proud during the Games.

“We’re aiming for seven gold medals for Malaysia.

“For many in the team, this is the first time they’re representing the country, so they are looking forward to winning the gold for Malaysia,” said Mohd Shahril, adding that he was proud to wave the Jalur Gemilang to show his love for the country.

MRCB senior manager for sales and marketing (property) Chong Hong Lim said that he was excited and proud to meet the squash players and to be able to raise the flag with them.

“They are young, talented, and equipped with impressive skills and a strong fighting spirit!” said Chong.

The Raise the Flag initiative will run until Malaysia Day on Sept 16.

Aset Kayamas is the main sponsor while MCRB is the co-sponsor for the campaign which seeks to strengthen national pride among Malaysians.

Special four-page spreads will enable Malaysians to cut out and assemble their own mini flags, as well as a T-shirt template which can be a canvas for creativity.

Decorate the T-shirts with a Malaysian motif and be photographed “wearing” the creation while holding the flags.
