Verification on MH370 report sought

KUALA LIPIS: More verified data is needed before a decision can be made to resume the search for the missing Malaysia Airlines flight MH370.

Transport Minister Datuk Seri Liow Tiong Lai said it was too early to decide on such a move, based on the latest report by Australia’s Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organisation (Csiro).

“We need to wait for more details from the experts as we do not want to jump to conclusions,” he told reporters after witnessing the handing over of track work machinery to Fajarbaru Builder Group Bhd here yesterday.

He said the Department of Civil Aviation response team headed by directorgeneral Datuk Azharuddin Abdul Rahman was analysing the report to determine if the data was new.

“If we feel it is credible and there is a possibility of finding the plane, then Malaysia, China and Australia will convene a meeting to consider a decision,” he said.

The Csiro report on MH370 was released by the Australian Transport Safety Bureau on Monday.

It said manmade objects floating in the sea were captured in a series of satellite images two days after the suspected crash of the airliner.

Drift patterns analysed by Csiro identified a search zone of 5,000sq km north of the previous area.

There have been several proposals from parties interested in looking for MH370, which went missing with 239 people on board on March 8, 2014.

The search was suspended in January.
