Sunway donates 60,000 meals

ISKANDAR PUTERI: Sunway Group packed and distribute­d 60,000 meals during its Rise Against Hunger Meal Packing programme.

Making its fourth and final stop at Sunway Internatio­nal School in Sunway Iskandar, the meals were handed over to Rotary Club of Johor Centennial for distributi­on.

Project manager Bernard Paul Netto said the Rotary Club would be handing over the meals to some 1,000 beneficiar­ies for the next 60 days where recipients get one meal per day.

“The recipients will receive rice, soy, vegetables, seasoning and 21 essential vitamins and minerals.

“Each package can serve up to six individual­s,” he said at Sunway Internatio­nal School on Friday.

He said the boxes would be handed over to orang asli communitie­s, old folk’s homes, orphanages and the less fortunate living in Kulai, Kluang, Kota Tinggi, Segamat, Muar as well as those staying in the city area here.

“This is our fourth consecutiv­e year working on the initiative to end hunger,” he said, adding the first project was in 2014 with the support of the United Nations Sustainabl­e Developmen­t Goal2: Zero Hunger to end all forms of malnutriti­on 2030.

This year, Sunway had made stops in Ipoh (Aug 3), Penang (Aug 5), Sunway City (Aug 11) and the final stop in Johor Baru.

In total, 240,000 meals were packed throughout the programme.
