Edric glad all okay for Windsor after long flight from Holland
AFTER all the stress of worrying about his horse, national rider Edric Lee can now focus on riding to glory in his third SEA Games outing.
The 27-year-old Edric was under all a lot of stress while his horse Windsor was trannsported from Holland to Malaysia five dayys ago.
“Windsor flew on a plane for the first time. It was a 24-hour flight and it had to be in standing position throughout the journey. I was stressed,” said Edric.
“Fortunately, everything went well andd Windsor is in good condition.”
Edric set up his base in Holland since the start of this year as he prepared for the Games. The equestrian competition starts today with the endurance race in Terengganu but Edric is only involved in dressage – individual and team – from Tuesday to Thursday at the 3Q Equestrian Centre e in Rawang.
“I to ook part in two SEA Games before taking a bre ak to further my studies. I was invited thi is year to rejoin the team to challenge for honours and I’m glad to be back," said Edric, who has been fascinated with horses since he was eight years old.
“I still remember going to the 2001 Kuala LumpurLum SEA Games as a child. I saw the horses and it was exhilarating.”
He made his debut at the 2007 Korat SEA Games and won a silver in eventing. He did not win any medals at Myanmar 2013.
“We have a good team and I believe we can challenge for the gold,” added Edric, who has a degree in equine science and business management from the Marcus Oldham College in Australia.
He now works as the equestrian manager at the Selangor Turf Club.
The others in the dressage team are Qabil Ambak, Quzandria Nur, Quek Sue Yian and Natalya Idris.
Siblings Qabil and Quzandria are back in the Games team after a 10-year absence.
Qabil is the only rider to have won all four golds (individual and team in showjumping and dressage) at KL 2001 and Korat 2007.
