Noor Quraataina aims to win a medal for mother

-

HAVING won over her moth- er’s heart, cyclist Noor Quraataina Mamat reckons that fighting her way to a medal in the women’s BMX cycling competition will be a breeze.

The BMX cycling competition takes place at the newly-built National BMX Arena in Nilai on Aug 26.

The 21-year-old decided to stop her sports science studies at UiTM Jengka in Pahang early this year to focus fully on the sport.

“My mother (Kamariah Muda) was mad at me at first for deciding to stop my studies although I did well in the first semester.

“She felt that it was a waste, and did not support me riding BMX.

“But after seeing my determination and the effort I put in during training, she changed her mind. In fact, she even bought me a new BMX bike for the SEA Games.

“I’m not from a well-to-do f family and I appreciate her g gesture.

“It means a lot to me and I hope to win a medal for her,” said Noor Quraataina, who is from Dungun, Terengganu.

Noor Quraataina and Elmi Jumari were crowned champions in the women and men’s categories at the pre-SEA Games BMX Championships last month.

“We have been training at the BMX track in Nilai since May. If I can get a good start when the gates open, I stand a chance although the riders from Indonesia, the Philippines and Thailand are stronger,” she said.
