KDU Penang, Ghee Hiang sign pact
KDU Penang University College has signed a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) in collaboration with Ghee Hiang Manufacturing Co. Sdn Bhd in a special ceremony organised at the Bon Appetit restaurant on KDU Penang’s campus.
Ghee Hiang executive chairman Datuk Ooi Sian Hian and KDU School of Hospitality, Tourism and Culinary Arts head Cindy Loh witnessed the signing ceremony.
Ghee Hiang executive director Ch’ng Huck Theng and KDU Penang vice-chancellor Dr Chong Beng Keok signed the MoA on behalf of their respective organisations.
During the signing, a mock cheque with a total of RM150,000 was presented to KDU Penang as well as an additional RM60,000 as a generous personal contribution by Ooi himself.
The major thrust of the MoA is to promote a mutually beneficial cooperation between KDU Penang and Ghee Hiang in providing more opportunities for students to pursue culinary arts in the near future. It would also help those in need of financial aid to pursue their dreams of a career in the culinary arts.
“With this collaboration, we will be implementing co-branding exercises by inviting Ghee Hiang representatives to any activities which involve our hospitality and culinary arts programmes.
“Together we will help nurture the development of the students from the programmes,” said Dr Chong.
The scholarship will commence from this month.
