PEKAN: Twelve cows donated by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak were slaughtered in the compound of his residence in Seri Kenangan here yesterday in conjunction with Hari Raya Haji.

Pekan Umno secretary Datuk Ahmad Azmey Abu Talib said the cows were part of the 458 cattle donated by Najib, who is also Pekan Member of Parliament and Pekan Umno chief, for the “ibadah korban” (ritual of sacrifice) activities in the parliamentary constituency.

“This year’s Hari Raya Haji celebration is indeed merrier as we (Pekan Umno) received 12 cows from Najib, compared to eight last year,” he told reporters after the sacrificial ritual organised by Pekan Umno.

Also present were deputy Pekan Umno chief Datuk Abu Bakar Harun and vice-chief Datuk Khairuddin Mahmud.

Apart from Pekan Umno, a total of 60 mosques, 166 surau, 33 government agencies and non-governmental organisations also received cattle donated by Najib.

The cattle were donated by Tenggara Member of Parliament Datuk Halimah Mohamed Sadique.
