TAYLOR’S University awarded 13 individuals with the Taylor’s World Class Scholarship (TWCS) this year.

The scholarship grants full tuition fees and the opportunity to gain practical experience through internship programmes with leading partner corporations, to these bright minds, steering them in the direction to achieve their career goals.

Higher Education Ministry director of the Private Higher Institutions Governance Division Dr Mohamed Ali Abdul Rahman attended the award presentation ceremony on behalf of Deputy Higher Education Minister Datuk Dr Mary Yap.

“Congratulations to the 13 exceptional students who have been granted the Taylor’s World Class Scholarship.

“It is vital for educators, parents and corporations to support students’ growth in a holistic manner. “When we help students to get on a clear developmental path, we help them obtain a life filled with choices and the skills to achieve their goals.

“Taylor’s University and the TWCS industry partners are setting a great example for other higher education institutions and industry players to develop students who will shape the country’s future,” he said when reading Dr Yap’s speech text.

Under the application process, Taylor’s University sought out individuals with strong interpersonal skills and leadership capability, and paired them with the industry’s top employers.

The TWCS award surpasses a regular scholarship by providing students with the extra support of learning from practical experience with some of the biggest names in business.

Taylor’s University deputy vice-chancellor and chief academic officer Prof Dr Pradeep Nair said

experience is the best teacher, making industry exposure an important lesson for our students to adapt in the workplace.

“We have partnered with world-class corporations to develop future-proof graduates with industry-relevant education that is highly regarded by future employers.

“The gold standard of TWCS can be seen in the quality of our alumni as they have exemplified excellence in their workplaces,” he said.

Taylor’s University continues to lead the way in industry engagement by selecting renowned

leaders in the fields of architecture, biosciences, business, communication, design, engineering, hospitality and psychology to join in the movement of building talents for the nation.

This year’s new participating corporations include, Abbott and Le Meridien Kuala Lumpur, who join BASF Petronas, BDO, BMW, CIMB, DwP, Edelman, GE, L’oreal, PHD, Unilever and Veritas as TWCS partners.

BASF PETRONAS Chemicals Sdn Bhd managing director Dr Stefan Beckmann said that TWCS scholars are individuals who are pro-active, innovative, and possess strong leadership.

“We have partnered with Taylor’s University for the TWCS award programme for the past three years,” he added.

The 12th TWCS award programme received applications from high achievers from across the country hoping to make the cut for the award.

The strict evaluation process means that applicants need to fulfil stringent entry requirements by proving their academic excellence and that they are actively involved in extracurricular activities.

Shortlisted candidates went on to an interview and presentation stage in front of judges who

comprised academicians and representatives of partner companies. It was at this phase that the committee shortlisted candidates who showed positive attitudes, leadership qualities, English proficiency and good communication skills.

Over the course of more than a decade, Taylor’s University has invested a total of RM13.8mil through the TWCS, supporting the ambitions of 165 world class scholars.
