Malaysians stranded at Mt Elbrus home tomorrow

PETALING JAYA: The 19 Malaysians who were stranded in Russia after a severe mudflow will be flying back to Kuala Lumpur today.

The group will fly to Moscow before flying home.

“We are now heading to Mineralnye Vody Airport. Our flight to Moscow is at 7pm (Russian time). Tomorrow (Monday), we will fly back to Kuala Lumpur,” Harian Metro reporter Fairul Asmaini Mohd Pilus said in an email reply.

They are expected to arrive here on Tuesday.

Six “Kembara Srikandi Prihatin” (KSP) climbers and 13 other Malaysian climbers were stranded on Friday at Mount Elbrus after the mudslide and bad weather that hit Terskol village.

Fairul was among the stranded climbers after all roads at the affected areas became inaccessib­le.

It was reported that the group was moved to a safe place and was doing well. The KSP team of six female climbers was to fly the Jalur Gemilang on the summit of Mount Elbrus on National Day.

According to reports, about 300 tourists, including more than 100 foreigners, were trapped in the mountainou­s Elbrus area of the Kabardino-Balkar Republic in the Russian Caucasus following the mudslide.

Our flight to Moscow is at 7pm (Russian time). Tomorrow (Monday), we will fly back to Kuala Lumpur.
