An 80-year-old grandmother (pic) suffered injuries and was left traumatised in a road rage attack, following a fender-bender with a young driver here.

Chan Tee Neo was left with a swollen left eye, bleeding nose and abrasion on her left hand after the minor accident at 1.30pm on Saturday.

Her son Robert Lim, 53, said the accident occurred along Jalan Melati, a bypass close to Banda Hilir police station.

He claimed the other driver, in his 30s, had hit his mother’s car but turned aggressive and started assaulting her. Lim also alleged the driver had the audacity to hit his mother outside the Banda Hilir police station after a verbal spat before violently dragging her inside.

He said the case could have been settled amicably without violence and pointed out the damage to both vehicles was negligible.

Lim said his mother was returning home after business and was passing through the busy stretch when the accident occurred.

He said his mother was an independent woman and despite her age, she still drove and managed the family’s business.

Lim said his mother sought treatment at Melaka Hospital before lodging a police report at the Banda Hilir police station at about 7.30pm and another at the Melaka Tengah traffic department on the same day.

“We hope witnesses come forward to help the investigation. My family will also be filing a civil lawsuit,” he added.

Melaka police chief Deputy Comm Datuk Abdul Jalil Hassan said police are investigating the road rage report and the allegations.
