Kelantan businessman funds student’s studies

-

BUSINESSMAN Gan Leong Piow has offered to fund Muhammad Ariff Aidil Mohd Anis through university so that the student can fully focus on his course, reported Metro Ahad.

Gan said he felt compelled to provide assistance to the financially-strapped student after reading about the 18-year-old’s plight in a Chinese daily.

The 70-year-old businessman from Kelantan said religious, racial and cultural differences did not deter him from extending help to Muhammad Ariff Aidil, a former student of SMJK (C) Chung Cheng.

“I will pay for his course fees and give him monthly pocket money of RM500 for the duration of his studies. I am helping to lessen his financial burden so he can focus on his education,” said Gan.

Muhammad Ariff Aidil had secured a scholarship to attend a four- year- course in Xiamen University, Sepang, but this would only cover the fees for fundamental literature and social science subjects.

> Actress Afifah Nasir claimed that she was still being haunted by attacks on social media following accusations that she had tried to break up the marriage of Malaysiabased Singaporean singer Aliff Aziz, reported Hip!, a pullout in Berita Harian.

Afifah, who starred in the drama Izinkan Aku Mencintaimu, had to endure insults from netizens after she was accused of coming between her male co-star and his wife Bella Astillah a month ago.

The comments were so severe that her sister, actress Anzalna, stopped her from leaving the house out of fear that something bad might happen to her.

Afifah said even two of her relatives, who were too young to understand what happened, had insults hurled at them.

“If people want to condemn or criticise me, they can do it to their hearts’ content. I can accept it. But please don’t attack people who are blameless in this situation,” she said.
